fonera 2.0n hits the US market
0
FON has announced the release of the fonera 2.0n, FINALLY!!! What is FON you ask? FON is a internet sharing community. Basically, you buy a fonera router and it gives you two wireless signals at home. One private and one public. You can share your public for FREE, and you are a Linus. You can also sell your wifi to other users for money, and then you are a Bill, or if your a user who pays for internet, then you are an alien. There is a full article on the wiki if you click the logos below. Now to be completely honest, both of my previous foneros were free for some promotions that they had. This is the biggest reason why I joined the community. Plus I like the idea, if I share internet at home, I can get internet where ever I go in the world of FON users. (This is called Fonero gets Fonero)

This upgrade is a long awaited announcement. (See here and here) With this new router, you can get a torrent downloader that works with no PC required, a YouTube uploaded without PC again, wireless HDD access[via USB plug], wireless printing [via USB plug] and much more. You can see the full out details on the router itself on the FON website.
This router even has Facebook, Twitter, Picasa, Flickr and MegaUpload integration. Basically, this router is a computer on its own. A small cool feature that was added on this time around, was the ‘fonera’ lookup inside your web browser instead of the 192.168.1.1 or whatever IP address you have it setup as on your home network. You can also see a new video in which FON has posted on their website about the new router:
If you would like to purchase the router, you can go to the FON shop and order it now.
Bank of America, JP Morgan rethinks overdraft fees
0
Last night, Chase Morgan and Bank of America announced a rethinking of overdraft fees. No longer will you be charged for a ‘small’ purchase ($under $10) that causes you to overdraft. If within 5 days, your account is not leveled back to zero or positive, you will then be charged $35. They also put a cap of of four overdraft in fees in one day. This totals for $140 in one day. They also have now an option to opt out of overdraft protection.

For some, MMS has come early. For me, it came at 635 this morning. Just for proof you can see it here. Something korny from my mom, but it still works.

If you want a good tutorial on how to get the 5.0 software, check out this article here.

In cased you missed the announcement last week, Microsoft is allowing college students to pre-order Windows 7 for $29.99. It’s not just the Home Premium Version either, you can also get the upgrade for Professional version as well. Both of these are upgrade versions, not the full blown, so you will need a previous copy of Windows Vista or XP. You can see the difference between these versions on the Microsoft Windows 7 website. You can also order the DVDs for an extra $13 to get a hard copy if you don’t have a good high speed connection to the internet. They do charge tax, cause my order was $32 and some change….
Skype CEO and FCC Chairman in Washington

Julius Genachowski

Josh Silverman
Skype CEO John Silverman and FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski will both be at an event at the Brookings Institute in D.C. today talking about the future of the internet.
Silverman will be talking about getting Skype on the 3G network of cell phone providers. Right now Skype is currently blocked over 3G networks and only allowed over wireless routers that are wired to home or business networks. Silverman thinks that this will challenge the providers which most likely won’t be favored in the cell industry. Especially since Skype traffic would be over the internet and not used against your cell phone minutes.
Genachowski will be talking about how the internet needs to stay a free and open platform. Basically that net neutrality needs to be the rule. He may reference the Comcast debacle that was back in 2008. Genachowski doesn’t want the providers constricting the “lanes” of the information super highway. He wants the internet to be available to all and make sure that it is affordable as well. He makes note of the fact that in many towns, there are very few providers driving any sort of competition, and in many towns, there is just only one. He belives every household should have many different options, wired or wireless; and the same goes for the rules on both wireless and wired as far as the restrictions. Wirless providers should not be able to restrict traffic based upon their protocols or destinations.
