Hulu will not charge in 2010

hulu_logo

There was a rumor floating around this past week that Hulu was going to start charging next year, and I even talked about it on my weekly youtube broadcast. As of today, there was a source at Entertainment Weekly that said that rumor is false and we should not be worried. This is a huge sigh of relief, because I don’t pay for cable specifically for this reason. I use Hulu Desktop as a very good on-demand box. I can even use my media center remote that came with my laptop so I don’t have to leave the couch to watch good television.

Who’s to say that we won’t soon to pay for it, the EW article references that we used to use Napster for free, and now we pay legally for iTunes. We used to get television over the air for free, but cable came along and we all signed up.

google announces free turn-by-turn navigation

So what happens when the giant Google releases a turn by turn navigation app? I don’t know is the answer, but I have a basis. Google has announced their android based app that looks to be very promising. What’s even better is the satellite/street view that they can overlay on top of the navigation, so you can see exactly what you are supposed to be looking at while you are driving. Now this is bad for those of you who don’t have a dash mounted phone or navigation unit, as it will definitely cause you to look downward at the screen:

did DLO and Belkin miss the memo??

OK, so I was at BestBuy today and I saw some new cases for the NEW iPod Touch. I didn’t know that there was one. Even with the Apple store being down for a few hours this past week, I still didn’t see a refresh in the iPod touch line. Am I the only one that has seen this, or is Apple allowing these cases to go out for a future release of a touch with a camera???

Barnes and Noble takes on Amazon

nook

Barnes and Noble now has their own rendition of an e-book reader. What’s it called, “Nook”. Theirs comes after their recently release of free wifi for all. Their largest competition? Amazon. Sony has some out there, but doesn’t seem as popular. Though I have been to many different retailers, and the Sony works great. Of course it supports all the popular formats already out there, like for the iPhone/iTouch, Blackberry, PCs and Macs. Is it worth it? We don’t know just yet, as we don’t have a price, but I figure it will directly compete with the price of the Amazon Kindle.(Update: $249 and now taking pre-orders) You can see more over at Engadget, but here is a video of it directly from that post:

Mobile DTV coming soon to your cell!

atsc

As of midnight last night (Oct 15th), the ATSC has voted unanimously for the mobile standard for DTV being broadcasts to cell phones over the 6MHz airwaves. In the bullpen, there are already over 800 stations signed up to broadcast on this slice of heaven. This will include everything from live TV to video on demand with targeted commercials. Italy has been playing around with this for a while now, so it is good we are not the first ones to try this and possibly screw it up. Samsung and LG already have gear that is ready for the new spectrum slice, so not it’s just a matter of time before we are watching last night’s episode of [insert favorite tv show] on our cell phones as we are driving to work. (Not that we aren’t already distracted{video not suitable for minors} enough)
