If you don’t get my title, you may not even care to read this article, but there are plenty of hackers out there this past week. If you haven’t heard, there has been a lot of hacking going on over the past few days and weeks that have made the national news. Even Conan O’brien talked about it, because iPhones worlwide have been ‘rickrolled‘. (Only jailbroken phones, so no the majority of owners.)

Down in Georgia, 4 guys from Europe were indicted in a $9.5 million bank card attack. They basically did social engineering hacks to get pin numbers from active accounts and hacked in the RBS servers and moved money around into their accounts. They ran their attacks around the world and collected $9.5 million.

Then M$’s “COFFEE” (Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor) has been leaked out onto the interet for FREE. This is said to be illegal to have on the streets, but free to any law enforcement agency. This is a program that was created by Microsoft to get into most XP machines without any problems and gives an all access pass to the officer. M$ is said to be re-creating a new version for Vista and Windows 7.

Just a few stories about hackers this week….

old news

So my ISP, is back to its regular ways again. This time, it is throttling its users back at two specific points, and this just seems horrible in the fact that I PAY for the service. I am not receiving free service via paid ads or some cray pyramid scheme. I am PAYING for it. The first trigger is if you are using 70% of your maximum rate for 15 minutes, they will throttle you back. I am running the 22d/5u; so if I run over 15.4mbps for 15 minutes, they will throttle me until they see fit (about 15 minutes worth). The second trigger is, if the main hub (Cable Modem Termination System) that I am hooked up to feels that I am hogging up the bandwidth on it, regardless of the speed I am running, it will throttle me until things are back to normal.

I really don’t appreciate this, especially if I am running some sort of torrent or downloading some big file from the internet. Just for instance, I paid for a digital copy of windows 7, and I should be getting the advertised speed that I am PAYING for, instead, I have to wait for it because comcast thinks I am bogging down the network. All the rest of you comcast users can suck it for all I care; your just regular users using YouTube and Friendster and Facebook and Twitter. You don’t need all that speed anyway.

This is honestly getting ridiculous playing this cat and mouse game. It’s just getting old. For the last few years it’s been torrenting issues and blocking certain traffic and the FCC said you had to stop it. Now you are just playing the game again, but just a little differently so your not breaking the rules. I don’t like you comcast. I pay you for a service and you don’t deliver. I understand you have to provide for millions of people the internet, but gosh dang it, they need to get back on dial-up or DSL anyway.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on USB thumb drive?

1

paramount-kingston-11-02-09

So Paramount and Kingston have partnered up to start selling movies through USB thumb drive and SD cards. First try: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Is this a good idea?? Who knows, Sony tried it out years ago with the PSP. Will it make it, now that movies are available to your door by Netflix and Redbox, or even to your TV screen via Netflix, Hulu, ABC, the list goes on and on. This is a, We’ll try and see… You can get this at OfficeMax for $29.99 according to HotHardware.com My only issue is the DRM thing, how do you watch the movie? Is it laptop only? Is it a one time license that only allows one transfer? How do I watch it?

My next concern, which I cannot seem to find the answer to, is what format is it in?? Will it work on Mac or PC or both? How do I archive it after I have watched it. With a traditional Blu-ray/DVD, it was on a disc that I can store and backup. If I want to back this up, can it be done? What are my limitations? I want more info before I go out and buy one of these. Especially since I bought the blu-ray for $19.99(+shipping) on Amazon last week, but now the price is up to $21.99.

I also have not seen this yet, but that is because they announced this thing today, so it may be a few weeks before it hits store shelves, but if you see one, feel free to post a comment below with a link to the photo.
