Google Voice app goes Official for iPhone

Remember GVmobile +??? Well now it’s finally been ousted by the FREE app from Google, Google Voice for the iPhone. It was finally approved by Apple! You can make phone calls direct and text messages inside the app, just as you were inside the native Phone app. Where GVmobile+ had to manually forward your calls for you, by inserting the numbers for you, but now with the Google app, it does all of that in the background for you, and all you see is the number that it is being forwarded through. This is all done via Direct Access Numbers. Plus, the app does push notifications so you can see the bubble pop up when you get a text, instead of just the little red bubble with a number. Also, will only require iOS 3.1 or later, so there is some legacy support for those older iOS devices. Another great thing that I apparently missed in previous posts, but is great, FREE SMS to all U.S. mobile numbers, BUT no MMS messages, boo!!! So if you have been waiting for the free app, it’s time to go download!

GVmobile+ in, now waiting on Google Voice

Ok so the general public is now a little more aware of Google Voice, now that you can make a free call anywhere inside of the United States, from just inside of Gmail; as long as you install the plug-in. So we all have to be wondering, what is the plan here??
Well it seems that Apple didn’t originally fall in love with Google, as the apps for the iPhone that were put in the App store were all taken down and forced to go to the jailbroken side of things and move into the Cydia App Store. One of the major players was Sean Kovacs and his app GVmobile.  Well for most us, that was great, because he had the app for free in that store, or you could pay for a premium version.

What is GVmobile you ask? GVmobile allows access to your Google Voice account so that you can use it as a phone interface on your smartphone instead of only using Google Voice in your browser. Basically just using all of your services that you get with your Google Voice account, put on your phone natively in app format. It’s great!

Well as of September of this year, GVmobile+ was released back into the Apple App Store and it looks like we also should be looking forward to an official Google app as well. If your willing to fork over the $2.99 for the GVmobile+, go check it out! But in the mean time, feel free to call me or text me on my Google Voice Number ( 615-873-0051) while I continue to test out GVmobile+

Google Voice opens to the world

So if you haven’t heard, Google has now opened the by-invite-only Google Voice service. With the service only being just over a year old, and having a modest 1 million users it seems fitting to open it up to the public. I have been using this service for over 6 months now and it is great to see it now open to everyone. The idea is that you only need one number for the rest of your life, and you can just forward your Google number to your actual number. It’s great, because if you ever change service from landlines or cells, you don’t have to go and change everything, as long as you told everyone your google number… Check it out below:

Google Voice sends out an invite

google-voice2

So I got my Google voice invite today. I am now a small part of the elites of Google users. Maybe not, since the Google Wave invites went out yesterday (here too). The problem is GV doesn’t have an official Apple app on the iPhone. Good thing mine is jailbroken and I can use the GV mobile that is out there for FREE!!! You want my number?? I’ll give it to you…Just kidding. The idea of what GV is, is pretty cool. Basically putting your phone calls over the internet when able and also giving you one phone number. (One number to rule them all!) Basically all you have to do, is add in your work, home and cell numbers and it rings them all. It also transcribes your voicemails for you as well. If you want more information, check it out on Google and also sign up for an invite.

I’ll get back to you in a few days or weeks to see how it’s going. Here’s a video on how it works:
